Laser Cutter Checklist

This instructions are intended to be used by people who have already been instructed before. In case you have not used the machine before you are not allowed to use the machine on your own!

 Turn on the Laser Machine
Turn on the the  machine by turning the key  (control panel top right on the machine) to the right . The machine should start with some noise.

 Initialize the machine
Be sure the lid is closed. Press the deadman’s button once and the machine will initialize. The cutting bed will move down slowly (approx. 20 seconds).

 Turn on the Control Computer an log in

 Start Rhino

 Start the Trotec Software

 Connect the Trotec software with the machine.
Go inside the Trotec Software on the control computer. Press the “connect” (left to the play) button within the Trotec Software. The machine should make some noise.

 Position your material
Be sure your material meets the requirements of the machine regarding size and materiality.
Open the lid of the machine and lay down your material on the cutting grid. Maneuver the laser head over your cutting material. A little red laser dot indicates the x/y location of the laser head. You can do this with the direction buttons on the control panel.

 Focus the laser
Hang the orange plastic ruler on the laser head. Use the up/down buttons on the control panel for navigation.  Move the cutting bed up until the ruler tip hits the surface of your material. Remove the ruler and close the lid.

 Prepare your jobs in Rhino
For other Apps like Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape e.g. please export your files to rhino first (dxf or AI Files. Drawing und cutting units are always set to mm and drawn/imported with mm!

 Check for double lines
In case fix your file first!

 Assign thelayer/object colors
according to the scheme of the Trotec software. Open the print menu in rhino. Here you find most of the settings for the cutting process.

 Select a suiting region and cutting size for your job.

 Check if the output scale is set to 1:1!

 Print your job to the trotec software.

 Drag your job into the working area.
Your job will show up on the right side of the trotec software. You can turn on a job preview (Top bar on the interface). Open the layer manager and assign the proper mode for cutting.

Open the layer Control 

 Set all unused colors to “skip”, the ones you want to cut to “cut”.
We also use “cut” for vector engraving. Never use “engrave” until you know how to engrave!  Double check if your material size and location fits with your job.

 Set speed and power for cutting
The frequency default setting is 5000HZ unless indicated differently. Prepare a test cut in case you are not
confident with the right settings.

 Start the Cutting process
When machine and software preparations are done, close the lid and press the “deadman’s” button on the machine. Then start the cutting process by pressing the “play button” on the trotec software on the lower right corner of the software interface. The machine should start immediately with the cutting process.

 Always stay with the machine…
and watch the cutting process thoroughly!

 In case of unexpected behavior immediately press the emergency button…
or slightly lift the lid of the machine to abort the cutting process. In some cases the laser will produce little flames underneath your material. In case your material catches fire besides the laser position immediately stop the cutting process! (lift the lid, press the emergency button) Try to extinguish the fire and call for help from the staff.

 Press the deadman`s button at least every 90 seconds
For continuous cutting operations you need confirm the cutting process by pressing the dead man’s switch every 90 seconds. If not pressed regularly the cutting process will be aborted.

 After Finishing
Remove all material from the cutting space. Take all material with you and trash all material not needed any more.
